Discussion Board
Dear Students
Graded Discussion Board
(GDB) for this course will be opened on March 01, 2022, for discussion
and it will remain open for 2 days (48 hours) till on March 02, 2022.
Topic/Area for Discussion:
“Networking and internet: Multimedia Streaming”
GDB Problem Statement
The use of computers,
mobile phones, and communication technologies is increasing day by day. People
around the globe are using internet services for social interaction, online
business, online shopping, flight reservation, and various other activities.
The use of communication technologies also helped educational institutes to
survive during the current pandemic situation but they faced a lot of
difficulties in providing education to the students at their homes. For sharing
valuable knowledge among the students of various departments, an educational
institute is planning to develop a video streaming service of its own for streaming
lectures of different disciplines. They need to use a suitable streaming
technology that is secure, and efficient in resource allocation and bandwidth
utilization. Following are the two choices for adopting the mode of multimedia
streaming:
· Multicast
· Broadcast
GDB
Question: Keeping the above scenario in view, which mode of streaming will
you prefer? Briefly explain with solid reason in concrete form.
Note:
For acquiring the
relevant knowledge, don’t rely only on handouts but also watch the course video
lessons and read additional material available online or in any other mode.
Important Instructions:

• Your
comments, if copied from other students or the internet, will be rewarded 0.
SOLUTION:
According to our GDB, I
will select Multicast streaming. In Multicasting, the packets go to a required set of devices
on the network. Multicasting has one/more
senders and one/more recipients participating in data transfer traffic. In
multicasting traffic recline between the boundaries of unicast and broadcast.
Its server’s direct single copies of data streams are then simulated
and routed to hosts that request it. IP multicast requires the support of some
other protocols such as IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol), Multicast
routing for its working. And also, in Classful IP addressing Class D is
reserved for multicast groups.
