QUESTION:
English language curriculum is to enable students to formulate and develop their communicative
competences through practicing listening, speaking, reading, writing and linguistic knowledge. Read sufficiently
about the English curriculum of Pakistan and write ten solid reasons: why would a poorly designed curriculum badly
affect the learning of the English language
students?
(10*2= 20 Marks)
ANSWER:
Lack of clear learning objectives:
A poorly designed curriculum may not clearly define what students should be able to do with the English language by the end of their studies, making it difficult for teachers to measure progress and adjust instruction as needed.
Inadequate focus on grammar and vocabulary:
A curriculum that does not place enough emphasis on grammar and vocabulary development can lead to students having difficulty communicating effectively in English.
Insufficient opportunities for practice:
A curriculum that does not provide enough opportunities for students to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing in English can impede their ability to acquire the language.
Limited cultural exposure:
A curriculum that does not expose students to the cultures and societies where English is spoken can make it difficult for them to understand and use the language in real-world contexts.
Lack of resources:
A curriculum that does not provide teachers with adequate resources, such as textbooks, workbooks, and audio-visual materials, can make it difficult for them to effectively teach the language.
Limited technology integration:
A curriculum that does not integrate technology, such as online resources and digital tools, can make it difficult for students to stay engaged and motivated in learning English.
Inadequate teacher training:
A curriculum that does not provide teachers with adequate training in how to teach English as a second language (ESL) can make it difficult for them to effectively instruct students.
Limited focus on critical thinking skills:
A curriculum that does not place enough emphasis on critical thinking skills, such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, can make it difficult for students to understand and use the language effectively.
Limited focus on real-world application:
A curriculum that does not place enough emphasis on real-world application of the language can make it difficult for students to understand and use the language in real-world contexts.
Limited focus on language assessment:
A curriculum that does not place enough emphasis on
language assessment can make it difficult for teachers to measure student
progress and adjust instruction as needed.
