The mean score on an accounting test is 60, with a standard deviation of 8. Between which two scores must this mean lie to represent 8/9 of the data set?

Find first the value of k.

Use Chebyshev’s Inequality to solve this GDB

Answer:

1 – 1 / k2 = 8 / 9

1 - 8 / 9 = 1 / k2

1 / 9 = 1 / k2

k2 = 9

k=3

Lower Limit: 

lower limit = mean – ( k ) ( sd )

Put all values

60 – (8)(3) = 60 – 24 = 36

Upper limit:

60 + 24 = 84 Answer
